Living Green
Living green is really easy by making a few changes monthly, weekly or daily. You do not have to adopt a radical mindset,
just a common sense approach will do.
"How to Start Living Green"
To live green use common sense and start slowly. You don't have to change everything at once. When you run out of your non-environmentally friendly items replace them with green or eco-friendly ones. If you don't recycle, start. Read labels and concentrate on buying organic or green products. The one thing you do NOT want to do is become a radical extremist and turn all your friends and family away! Our job as living green examples is to gently persuade the people around us to follow suit.
If you need some guidance with starting your living green endeavors, I suggest you get some excellent resources to help you. Books that I have enjoyed are Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home by Christopher Gavigan, this is an essential guidebook for parents wanting to go green. Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet by Norma Lehmeier-Hartie does a really great job of going in-depth to living green without being tedious or boring. Environmentally friendly lifestyle expert Danny Seo's first book Conscious Style Home: Eco-Friendly Living for the 21st Century chronicles his renovation of his parents' home using easy-to-find, eco-friendly materials. Two fun books that are light and easy to read are Gorgeously Green by Sophie Uliano and Squeaky Green by Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry (the co-founders of Method products).
Also, I have found some of the best advice for living green comes from online blogs and newsletters. They are free to sign up for and contain fresh and current ideas. My favorites can be found at my Newsletters link.
"The Eco-Friendly Home"
Do you want to find some unique products for your eco-friendly home that are elegant in design and function with a passion for preserving natural resources? Then you have got to visit VivaTerra – Eco Living with Style. Find natural home décor, unique women’s accessories, elegant dinnerware, organic gifts and more.
I bought the Oceana Seaglass Dinnerware (shown below) for my daughter and it displays lovely on her pine table with her bamboo mats. It is made of recycled glass, which makes it not only an environmentally friendly product but it is gorgeous to boot!
If you haven't already found a source for organic cotton and bamboo towels, why not scout out the sets at the VivaTerra site while you are there. You will appreciate the fact that these towels are lighter weight allowing them to dry faster while still being of the utmost absorbency.
Remember, take a common sense approach and implement an eco-friendly change daily, weekly, or monthly and you will be Living Green with the rest of us.
